Northern Lights

A few times over the past several months we’ve had a special phenomenon appearing in the night sky. The northern lights have put on quite a show, dazzling Bellingham, WA with an array of greens, pinks, and purples. The lights happen when energized particles from the sun hit Earth’s upper atmosphere at speeds up to 45 million mph. The Earth’s magnetic field then redirects the particles towards the poles creating the atmospheric event. A thing of beauty and wonder, glad to have experienced it for the first time in my own backyard!
