One thing I did recently was attend a Rick Steves event here in Bellingham for his new book tour On The Hippie Trail: Istanbul to Kathmandu and the Making of a Travel Writer. Rick detailed his early adventures traveling along the Hippie Trail (which closed in the late 1970s) and recording in numerous journals. Those journals would later become the basis of his new book. He talked of the wonders of travel, the different scams foreigners encounter in unfamiliar countries, and of course weed. Typical Rick Steves stuff. He also interwove some takeaways from another lecture of his, Travel as a Political Act, for people to mainly come away from travel with a broadened perspective of the world. Check out the event schedule on his website https://www.ricksteves.com/ for future programs, and as Rick likes to say “Keep on Travelin!”
